Charleston, the South Carolina port city founded in 1670, is defined by its cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages and pastel antebellum houses, particularly in the elegant French Quarter and Battery districts. The Battery promenade and Waterfront Park both overlook Charleston Harbor, while Fort Sumter, a federal stronghold where the first shots of the Civil War rang out, lies across the water. Charleston is know for it’s hospitality, charm, roof top bars views, fabulous culinary world and barrier islands.

Historic Charleston

If you are dying to know more about the history of Downtown Charleston there’s an abundance of sites you can visit in the Holy City that offer a glimpse into Charleston’s past. Set up a guided walking tour to see and learn more about attractions like the Nathaniel Russell House, a mansion and National Historic Landmark built in 1808. Also stop by the Fireproof Building, which is yet another National Landmark and believed to be the oldest fireproof building in the United States. Spend a night at the Historic Indigo Manor, built in 1870 and fully renovated with modern amenities, original heart-pine floors and exposed beams. You’ll feel like you stepped back in time in a luxurious way.

If you love mystery and enjoy a good ghost story, Charleston doesn’t disappoint. There are several tours in town that expose you to a different side of this beautiful city.
